Portuguese Comics Collection...

In the next few lines, I will describe the history of the Portuguese Comics, since the launch of the newspaper ABCZinho, in 1920's, going by the "golden age" of the 1940's (with publications such as Mosquito, Diabrete or Papagaio, that survived for more then a decade), until the arrival of the Disney comics in Portugal, in the early 1980's.

	A Tribute to Edgar P. Jacobs...
		Blake and Mortimer in Portugal From all the characters and series that were translated and published in Portugal, apart from Tintin, the adventures of Blake and Mortimer (by Edgar P. Jacobs) surelly were, and still are, one of the biggest atractions for the HQ and comics lovers. After drawing Le Rayon U in 1943, Jacobs then went on to draw and write the Blake and Mortimer comic books, publishing the first one in the belgian edition of the Tintin magazine, back in September 1946. In Portugal the Blake and Mortimer adventures first appeared in Cavaleiro Andante issue number 30, in 26th July 1952. After that, the works by Jacobs were published in many other portuguese comics such as Foguetão (1961), Cavaleiro Andante, Titã, Nau Catrineta and the Tintin magazine that lasted up to 1982. The latter works by Bob de Moor, Ted Benoit, Jean Van Hamme, Yves Sente and André Juillard are still published on a regular basis, tipically six month after the french written edition is launched.
