Graduated from Higher Air Force School; test pilot, Soviet
Airforce; was selected for Buran-flights (GKNII-1); OKP (cosmonaut basic
training): 1/79 - 11/80; in the beggining of 1979, the Soviet Air Force selected
and trained its own group of Buran test pilots. Unlike the "Igor Volk Group",
these were military officers who remained assigned to the Chkalov Flight
Research Center, at Akhtubinsk. Borodai, along with Bachurin where the only ones
to finish the 1979 class. Borodai conducted 6 Buran ALTs in 1987 and 1988; on
29.12.1993 retired; lost his both legs on 08.10.1996 in a crash landing of an
AN-124 in Turin, Italy.
