Graduated from Kachinsk Higher Military Pilot School, 1970;
graduated from test pilot school in Zhukovsky, 1977; graduated from Moscow
Aviation Institute, 1980; civilian test pilot for the Air Force Ministry;
remarried to cosmonaut Tamara Zakharova; was selected as cosmonaut on 02.09.1985
(LII-4); OKP (cosmonaut basic training): 9/85 - 1987; during the November 1988
unmanned flight of Buran, Sheffer was presented at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, as
part of the chase team; after the end of the Buran-program he served again as
test pilot and became 1999 Director, test pilot-school of LII, named after
Mikhail M. Gromov; he died of heart failure during work.
